National School Safety Center (NSSC)
The NSSC provides assistance to schools facing safety crises and communities implementing safety plans. Find a variety of resources for parents and educators, but the Checklist for Characteristics of Violent Youth is a must.

American Association of School Administrators (AASA)
You don't have to be an administrator to enjoy the resources offered by the AASA. This site highlights topics you tackle in class, such as class size and school safety. Learn to be a leader at your school, even if you never plan to become a principal.

American Federation of Teachers, AFL-CIO
Read the publications from the AFT, follow their lobbying efforts, and check out their suggested online resources. Special sections focus on retirement, grants, and scholarships.

The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD)
The ASCD has a variety of resources for teachers, such as featured books and videos, conferences, awards, and a job-match program. Highlights of the site include their biweekly newsletter, monthly journal, and online professional development courses.

Children First: The National PTA Website
The PTA strives to increase parental involvement in American public school systems and to promote child welfare at home and at school. Check out their online publications, bulletin boards, programs, and highlights of legislative activity.

National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP)
The NAESP focuses on providing high-quality educations to elementary and middle school students. Network with administrators, check out proposed legislation, read their publications, and write directly to U.S. senators and representatives about education issues.

National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP)
Middle and high school administrators, teachers, parents, and students will all find interesting materials at the NASSP Web site. There's hot topics in education, a job matching service, educator resources, and a whole section of school safety resources.

National Coalition for Parent Involvement in Education (NCPIE)
This organization encourages parents to get more involved in their children's educations. Working closely with PFIE, this coalition provides publications and training to promote school and family partnerships across the country.

National Education Association (NEA)
The NEA campaigns for the improvement of public education by lobbying legislators, coordinating projects, conducting workshops, and linking educators worldwide.

National Middle School Association (NMSA)
The NMSA is devoted to improving the education experience for 10 to 15 year olds. This group provides curriculum ideas, research findings, position papers, and other resources for teachers, administrators, parents, and community leaders.

Partnership for Family Involvement in Education (PFIE)
The U.S. Secretary of Education and the U.S. Department of Education established PFIE to encourage parental and employee involvement in education by businesses, community and religious organizations, families, and schools.

PTO Today
PTO Today provides assistance to parent-teacher organizations in K-8 schools. Visit this site for tips on fundraising, building a new playground, and enriching class time with speakers and special activities. Rethinking Schools Online
Rethinking Schools is a national publication, written by and for teachers, students, and parents. Its articles focus on improving public education in urban settings by attacking problems such as race, funding, and equity.

The Safety Zone: National Resource Center for Safe Schools
Operated by the Northwest Regional Education Laboratory, this organization supports the notion that communities must embrace a variety of strategies to create safe schools. Obtain statistics, download publications, and apply for funding for your safety program.

Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI)
